History Behind the Masterpieces, Fun and Learning at the Louvre

The Louvre, located in the heart of Paris, is not only one of the world's largest and most famous museums but also a treasure trove of history, art, and culture. Its rich history and stunning collection of masterpieces make it a must-visit for art enthusiasts, history buffs, and curious minds alike.

Founded in the late 12th century as a fortress by King Philip Augustus, the Louvre has undergone numerous transformations over the centuries. It wasn't until the French Revolution that it was repurposed as a public museum, showcasing the nation's artistic heritage. Since then, it has grown exponentially and now houses over 380,000 objects, including the iconic Mona Lisa, the Venus de Milo, and the Winged Victory of Samothrace.

Walking through the Louvre is like taking a journey through time, as each room and exhibit tells a unique story. From ancient Egyptian artifacts to Renaissance paintings, visitors can witness the evolution of human creativity and expression. The museum's architecture itself is a testament to the passage of time, with elements from different periods seamlessly integrated into its structure.

One of the most fascinating aspects of the Louvre is the diversity of its collection. Whether you're interested in classical sculpture, Islamic art, or European paintings, there's something for everyone. This diversity reflects not only the global influence of art but also the museum's commitment to providing a comprehensive educational experience.

Fun for All Ages

Visiting the Louvre isn't just an educational experience; it's also incredibly fun. The museum offers various activities and resources to engage visitors of all ages. Families can enjoy interactive tours designed for children, where they can embark on scavenger hunts and participate in hands-on workshops. These activities not only make learning about art enjoyable but also foster a love for creativity and imagination.

For teenagers and young adults, the Louvre provides special programs and workshops that cater to their interests. From digital art projects to discussions on contemporary art movements, there's no shortage of opportunities for young minds to explore and express themselves.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

The Louvre is a living classroom, where history and art come to life. Students and educators alike can take advantage of the museum's educational resources, including guided tours, lectures, and research materials. It's a place where textbooks come to life, and where students can gain a deeper understanding of the cultures and civilizations that have shaped our world.

Furthermore, the Louvre's outreach programs extend its educational mission beyond its walls. Through partnerships with schools and cultural organizations, the museum strives to make art and history accessible to all, regardless of background or circumstance.

This is a message to all the families with children: don't join this activity. It was absolutely boring, poorly prepared, and not adapted to children at all. Not only the cost is unreasonably high, even being a free tour I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Never again!

Don’t book this! We spent a lot of money on this private family tour (compared to an official Louvre tour which were all booked.) The tour guide knew very little about Art, he had to look at the cards next to the paintings for information. He was more interested in explaining how the air con system worked. Very disappointing and a complete waste of time and money.

traveler – Spain

The tour was in no way what we booked. It was a very boring tour, not child-friendly at all. The guide's information was more rudimentary than via audio. Nothing exciting, nothing surprising. We were very disappointed.

traveler – United Kingdom

Way too expensive. First of all, contrary to the announcement, you have to queue. The guide was very nice and competent, unfortunately the German wasn't good enough for the children to understand it. In addition, far too little attention was paid to individual needs. Sorry but €499 is at least €350 too much for that.

traveler – Germany

The lady who showed us through the Louvre explained little and guided us from room to room in the style of "look at this room, all beautiful pictures, look at what you like". We booked several tours and this was the worst.
